Training Your Dog to Obey
Everyone knows that dog make wonderful companions, but well-mannered dogs must be trained in basic dog behavior training. Dog are naturally pack animals, so they respond best when they know who is in control. If they recognize you as the leader, they will follow. Otherwise, they will assume the leadership, and you will be left to follow their whim. Dogs need rubs and affection to reward their actions, but be wise not to award bad behavior. For example, if your dog is scared by something, your initial reaction may be to comfort it as you would a scared child. However, you ought to be firm and show your dog that you are the one in control. Further, if you dog does something that goes beyond his bounds – jumps on the couch, for example, do not rub his back and attempt to coax him off. Instead, be firm with him and demand that he get off the couch. Being firm is different from being mean, but it is important to establishing a proper relationship with your dog.
